Ubuntu font launched for beta testing
08.08.2010
Canonical announced yesterday that the new default font for Ubuntu 10.10, the well known Linux operating system, has been made public for beta testing (only for Ubuntu Members) and is now available in a private PPA.
The Ubuntu font (family) is open-type ttf based font format and fully unicode compliant. It contains Latin A and B extended character sets, Greek Polytonic and Cyrillic extended.
The font has been hinted for superior screen display. Its spacing and kerning is optimized for body copy sizes.
You can login with your Launchpad credentials to access the font testing tool.
The new font will be ready in August and will be included in the next Ubuntu version named Maverick Meerkat which will be launched in October 2010.
